Because the season demands more than one a day:
Quote of the day:
"Jesus was a community organizer. Pilate was a governor."

While calling the Obamas "elists" on stage...
Cindy McCain wore earrings valued at approximately $280,000. Priceless!

Annamarie Cox twitters on McCain's fear of the press
How anti-press is the McCain campaign? They just cancelled a Habitat for Humanity PHOTO OP. Because it has to do with "houses"? Go figure!
Actually, I suspect that it might have to do with the fact that Habitat for Humanity is a bottom-up community organization, and right now the Republicans want to remind you that "community organizer" is just a euphemism for "angry black man."

Yup. "Uppity." It's out in the open now.
Dear gods, let this just be a false rumor:
"Just from what little I've seen of her and Mr. Obama, Sen. Obama, they're a member of an elitist-class individual that thinks that they're uppity," [Georgia Republican Rep. Lynn] Westmoreland said.

Asked to clarify that he used the word "uppity," Westmoreland said, "Uppity, yeah."

"Pray for John McCain's salvation and speedy death."
This has to be one of the most charming little blog posts ever seen. Jay Rogers, a Christian Reconstructionist, believes that young people are dumb, shallow, and so fickle that a hottie like Sarah Palin will attract people away from Obama. And then he hopes that McCain gets elected, keels over, and leaves our country in the hands of a Christian Reconstructionist like himself.

Palin: "Our leaders should make sure our wars are on God's plan."
Lovely. Do we really want someone who has a 1/3rd chance of ascending to the Presidency who really believes that our mission in Iraq is, as Coulter put it, "to kill all the leaders and Christianize the rest?"

The Bush Administration fights against UN blasphemy resolutions.
While the Catholic Church has repeatedly stated that freedom of speech laws should not apply to those who try and hurt the feelings of believers, the Bush administration gets off its duff when it learns that there's an initiative before the UN to demand "respect for Islam." So, what's the next step in the Republican's self-destruction this election? Catching McCain and Palin in the sack together?

She's a Reconstructionist too?
Now my day is complete...

You know, I keep thinking I'm going to wake up and someone is going to say "Bad dream, sweetheart?" and I'll back in the real world where sane people run the government.

It seems like you're making a mistake lots of people are making. Whether one is in the elite is quite a different issue from whether one is elitist.

Contrast Elitism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elitism) (first several sentences) with Elite (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elite). There is no question that every serious candidate for President is a member of the elite. Whether any of them hold elitist beliefs and act on those beliefs is a different question.

I think most of the elite are elitists. I think most scientists and professionals and hackers are elitists. I'm not at all sure elitism is a bad thing.

But Obama (like McCain) is running as a populist. So if he's revealed to really be an elitist, then he's being hypocritcal and may lose many of those populist voters.

Actually, that's what Rogers is hoping. Technically, she belongs to a church whose head minister is a member of the "Neopentecostalism" movement, a subset of Dominionism. What that make her is... a matter of interpretation (and bias).

I knew about the dominionist stuff, even the neo-pente.

Her church also has speakers from Jews for Jesus, which is an anti-semetic Assembleys Front-group.

Small point -
The entire system of elections almost requires candidates to be "populist", or appear to be so. This is a combination of the system and culture surrounding it. If one of the candidates is committing hipocracy by being elitist while trying to appear populist it is the fault of the system overall really.

Now using this to sling mud at your opponent *is* hippocritical, since you are targetting a flaw in the system that you are most likely both falling foul of.

Hint: it's because they mean different things.

I'd agree with you on this.

Congressman Westmoreland (the "uppity guy"), of course, is also the guy from the famous Stephen Colbert clip (http://www.boreme.com/boreme/funny-2006/colbert-congressman-p1.php), who said he wanted to display the Ten Commandments in government buildings, but couldn't name more than three of them himself.

And he didn't call Obama uppity -- he said Obama thinks he's uppity. I don't even know what that means, exactly, but since Westmoreland managed to cram three noun number mismatches into a single sentence I'm not sure he does either.

Jay Rogers:

Just another example of why unification of church and state only works if it's *your* church.

What if God's Plan is for the US to lose in Iraq?

Well sure. But telling the public you're one of the working folks while the clothes you're wearing cost more than a month's working folk's wages, is, ah, wrong.

Funny, I don't think I've ever heard of Cindy McCain making that claim.

Maybe I missed something.

In any event, it's a stupid topic of discussion.
