Nevada GOP Delegate Split Spells Trouble for McCain
Two Nevada delegations are packing their bags for the Republican National Convention Sept. 1, and if the latest party ruling stands, neither of them will be seated.

A fiasco at the state convention spawned the dueling delegations -- one for John McCain and one for Ron Paul -- and their continued wrangling has exposed a split in the party that may spell trouble in a key state for the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

Our children have access to "dangerous books!"
JoAn Karkos, age 64, checked out a copy of Robie H. Harris and Michael Emberley's It's Perfectly Normal, a lovely book about dealing with the physical and sexual aspects of puberty and adolescence, and is refusing to return it. She may face jail time.

One of the several quotes from Karkos reads, "The book subverts true liberty, hates well-ordered discipline, and wages war against peace and harmony in public and private lives of youth and children." You have to love the Catholic (and yes, she is a Catholic) attempt to redefine "liberty"; that's one battle they've been at for twenty years now, and it's just going nowhere.

Mmmmmm. Hillary throws her (public) support unequivocally for Obama. McCain can't get party unity, and it's coming from a state that threw Democrat the last two times they won. Is that blood I smell?

As far as the book lady... treat her like *anyone else*. Petty theft, first offender. 11 months 29 days max, sentence suspended upon payment of restitution. If she doesn't pay, she goes to the slammer, and if she refuses to pay at end of sentence, it's contempt, and her greybar hotel bill goes on the tab.

She's actually tried paying. That's the point. The library won't take a check; they want their book back. The head librarian said, "We don't sell our books."

Ah, principle.

The library I worked at in HS had the same policy--you paid the overdue fine AND you gave the book back, even if the fine was several times the actual cost of a replacement book. Some libraries submit the overdue accounts to collections, eventually, which we never did.

Nor was I allowed to visit deadbeats with an axe like in Bloom County. I pouted.

And NPR was just yesterday reporting on Hillary's speech urging all her supporters to join together behind Obama, and how McCain is flogging the split between the supporters of Hillary and Obama, and how united the Republicans are, with a clip from one of his ads. Sounds like the beginnings of a case of denial here...
