Now, if you click there, it'll redirect you to "Citizens for John McCain," but it's interesting that such a link is already hot and ready inside Google's sponsored links engine.
I actually hope he selects him. That would make sure the hard core right don't vote. I don't think that many from the left would jump ship because of Lieberman.
actually, I'd say he won his position in CT due to the Republicans in general and various low-information Democrats. And New England Republicans (except perhaps in New Hampshire) tend to be a lot less hardcore than elsewhere.
It'd be a play for the independents & Hillary Democrats...but I wouldn't underestimate its value that way, though. If McCain wants to play the "bipartisan" card strongly, there'd be no better way to demonstrate his intent to work across the aisle than by selecting the Democrats' VP candidate from '00 as his choice. It'd also make the Biden selection look like a 'business as usual' selection by Obama in comparison, which undercuts their primary campaign theme.
Aside from the tactical advantages, though, if it happens it probably would come down to that McCain would be just more comfortable with JoeL as his VP than any of the other options. McC pretty much gives up any hope of mobilizing the pro-life faction of the GOP by selecting Lieberman or Ridge, for example.
I did a search on the text "Joins McCain's Team. Learn Why You Should Join!" and got two other hits: Senator Coburn from Oklahoma, and....Sylvester Stallone!
Thanks for the tip, Elf. I wrote about it in my blog.
You find a nice comment by Lieberman regarding helping recruit "Citizens for McCain". Including PUMAs. So, I think that the link between PUMAs and Lieberman is pretty strong.
Interesting. But I don't think Sen McCain will be able to pick Sen Lieberman as he is, like it or not, beholden to the agents of intolerance. What he might gain in moderates he would surely know lose 10x over in his base.
