Y' dig sixteen tons...again

Saturday started with Omaha making scrambled eggs and cheese, and then the three of us tromped out to Kouryou-chan's school to spend the entire day weeding about 120 square feet of the school's frontspiece, an area that doesn't look too bad until you realize that you're going to have to dig up every square foot four inches at a time with a pitchfork, then go back and sift through the debris pulling out every weed you can possibly find. It was backbreaking work. The day was at least somewhat compliant, vacillating between sun and clouds, cool enough to keep me from overheating too badly.

I shoveled and moved eight or nine wheelbarrows full of bark onto the area while Omaha raked it all into place.

We got home and took showers, then headed over to Lisakit's for her birthday party.

Lisa's birthday party

Lisa's party was pretty quiet when we arrived, just one other guest, but it quickly warmed up with with the arrival of one party and then another, the second being [livejournal.com profile] tabbifli and her partner. Then things got loud, food was distributed, cake was eaten, and hugs were exchanged. It was, all in all, a lovely time. We stayed for about two hours. I'd remembered to get a gift this time-- some foot rub I'd remembered she liked but was out of. She has such lovely friends, too.

When we got home, we "just lay down for a few minutes..." and I woke up two hours later. It was nine, and I was still exhausted. I took care of the cat, and then went back to bed.

Sunday: Waffles and Lawns

I made waffles for breakfast, which was always fun. It also gave me time to finish up all the dishes we'd neglected the past day or so, and I felt better with a cleaned-up kitchen.

I have a lawn again! You see, about a month ago I broke my lawnmover. It got caught on a piece of rope the kids had left lying in the back yard, which slowed it down enough that it burned out. We took it to DeWalt's Service Center, as instructed, and they said "oh, three to five days." Days turned to weeks, and finally they called us back and said, "We're sorry. We didn't notice the first time that it can't actually be fixed. We'll sell you a new one for $175 or so."

Omaha thanked them for their incompetence and we went onto Craigslist and bought one used for much less that that. It's a Black & Decker Lawn Hog, and although the lawn had been under invasion for over a month it sliced through the dandelions and bindwind like it wasn't even there, leaving us with a flat surface that might have been actual grass once. But the entire yard went under in less than two hours, which was pretty darned good.

Another day, another birthday

I took Kouryou-chan to a birthday party at one of her friends' homes, and then hurtled back to take Omaha to her bi-weekly D&D game. Then, already late to pick Kouryou-chan up from her friend's, I hurtled over there only to discover that they had just started on the pinata and hadn't even had cake or opened the presents. The family pressed food on me-- pretty damn good food, too-- while I patiently waited for the rituals to end. We got out of there an hour late.

Home that evening was quiet. I actually spent about two hours drawing, which was nice. Then I finished Prey; I was up to the last boss level when I'd last saved it, so it was time to just kill the beast and end it. I sat through the entire credits to get to the easter egg, which told me that there will be a sequel someday. Lovely, that, except that Prey was 11 years in development so we probably won't be seeing Prey 2 anytime soon. (Unfortunately, the producer of Prey is Scott Miller, also responsible for producing Duke Nukem Forever... so... we'll see Prey 2 somewhere around 2016, I expect. At least Prey shipped!)

A clean always kitchen makes me feel better too. One of my friends actually unloaded and reloaded our dishes for us and cleaned things up before they left. It was a lovely present.

And thanks again for the Lush foot stuff. It makes my toes happy.
