Personally, I think this totally screws McCain. Either he accepts that Obama has the plan that best suits both governments and that his own plan ("100 years!") is a lame duck, or he claims that the Maliki government's sovereignty isn't relevant to him. Right now, they're spinning it that Maliki was "playing to his domestic (i.e. Iraqi) audience" and didn't really mean what he said.

Date: 2008-07-22 02:34 am (UTC)What he doesn't mention, of course, is that while a Democrat was in the White House, we did go after Bin Laden, twice, once missing him by only hours. And the Republican president, in contrast, blithely ignored Bin Laden even as his own intelligence people were telling him that Bin Laden was determined to strike within the US borders sometime very soon.
