The Crazy Clockwork Tinkerer

What is life? If something simulates life so well that no one knows that it is simulated and treats it like it were alive, would that be just like life?  And if you were the one to create this simulated life, would that make you a god of some sort?  Quite possibly, and that may be one of the many motivations behind your projects.  Your clockwork mechanisms started off simple and cute, but as you attempted to replicate life in your machines, you created bigger mechanisms, golems of gears, that do your bidding.  You are a genius, but a crazy genius.

Oh dear.

Not only are they running the test on a cheap copy of a proper Imperial Babbage Machines engine, they are distressingly ignorant of the operation of steam boilers.

(Yes, I have operated a steam engine. Why do you ask?)

You see machines in a different way than everyone else. To you the cause and effect of gearwork is intuitive. You use this knowledge to great skill and are often improving or steamlining your equipment in mid-action, because you enjoy the action just as much as you enjoy the machines. A machine is worthless unless it is put to good use. And if you don’t have a machine available to do the job you want it to do, with the right tools you will build one. And if you don’t have the right tools, you will make those too. Many an innocent has been saved by your daring deeds.

There is treasure on those airships flying back from the Imperial colonies and you can be found wherever there is treasure. Sometimes you don’t know what you prefer, having the loot or getting the loot. You have your own crew of engineers, bodgers, tinkerers and fians to keep your airship fast and powerful. Those lumbering cargo ships can’t withstand your assault after you fire off the grappling hooks. Oh there is always a fight, but that is part of the fun.
