One of my favorite sightings recently was "Fast Food: Ads vs Reality," which shows what various fast food products look like in print advertising and then goes and orders the product to see what it looks like in real life. Since, on our way to a campsite my family stopped by a Burger King for lunch, I decided to play along. Below is the print version, and my freshly unwrapped personally hand-made and store-delivered version, of the BK Angus Steakburger.

BK Angus Burger: Ad vs. Reality

Tasty, no?

Just adjusting the RGB to give the napkin a colour close to white makes a huge difference to the look. Increasing the brightness a bit, never mind tweaking the colour balance, helps a lot.

Whatever the reason, it throws off the comparison.

You still have the red of the tomatoes (possibly a completely different variety), the collapse of the salad layer, and the uneven lighting. They are differences which come from the painstaking care of a team of advertising professionals working in a studio. And by the time they finish the food is probably inedible.

An interesting commonality in the commercial photos is that the cheese is never melted, as it would and should be in real life.

Let us know if Burger King files a DMCA takedown against you for direct infringement (on the first photo), and derivative work infringement (since the photo is a derivative work of their intellectual property embodied by the "burger").
