Obama team gives Hillary the middle finger

Obama's team has hired Patti Solis Doyle to vet vice presidential candidates. Solis Doyle was Hillary's campaign manager through February, and has become "estranged" from Hillary; the two haven't talked since Hillary fired her. The Obama team's decision to hire her is "the biggest 'fuck you' ever seen in politics." Now that's how it's done in Chicago!

McCain seems to be getting the vapors over dealing with a Chicago politician, too.

WND: Judge Alex Kozinski should be arrested!

Okay, so Alex Kozinski, who I've always admired for his level-headedness even when he's blown past his claimed libertarian principles, and who was overseeing an obscenity trial in California, turns out to have had a poorly secured fileshare at his house with a small porn stash of his own. (Turns out he had a surprising amount of Furry stuff. Yay!)

Joe Farah at WND goes absolutely ballistic and demands:

This pervert judge should be arrested and frog-marched in an orange jumpsuit right into a federal prison to await a trial of his own. In the meantime, if he doesn't immediately resign in disgrace from the bench, he should removed for cause as judges and most public officials have the privilege of serving the people while they conduct themselves professionally, ethically and morally.

Why? Because the guy, like, you know, the majority of American men, happen to like porn? I would think he'd be perfect for this trial. (via Dispatches from the Culture Wars)

Another Favored Government Program

A few days ago I had an entry about how a group to "introduce golfing to inner city kids" jumped ahead of the queue and received funding because President Bush favored it. Now ABC tells us that a sexual abstinence group called "Best Friends," ranked 53 out of 104 grants, received double its grants request despite refusing to participate in a required (by law, not regulation) study to determine its effectiveness.

The group is headed by Elayne Bennett, wife of former Bush Secretary of Education (and high stakes gambler) Bill Bennett. Hmm...

Is the sentence doomed?

Gaah. I hate when writers think they're being cute. The Washington Post brings us another "You kids with your electrical difference engines and aetheric yodeling machines are destroying Western civilization! Soon you won't even know how to talk to each other!"

Well, of course Judge Kozinski should recuse himself.

The Prosecutor will have to make actual legal arguments, rather than relying on shocking the court with out-of-context images.

(My doubts about porn centre on what feels to be the presentation of abusive misogyny as normal, usually as part of the framing story rather than an part of the images. It's not the pictures: it's the work as a whole.)

Apparently there never was a cache of porn. The images were just the raciest and raunchiest of jokes that go around on Email.

Was some of the material in bad taste? Absolutely. Some of it was undoubtedly misogynistic. But it galls me that this guy is going to face serious trouble for "running a porn website", when actually he just has a twisted sense of humor.

that's just it. The judge might just have some grounding in common sense and reality, and will probably be able to smell bullshit when a prosecutor waves it under his nose, and calls it a vile and obscene threat to america. He hasta go, obviously.
