Astute readers will notice that, here we are, halfway through April, and I'm officially halfway through Caprice's minimal length. Muse steadfastly refused to kick out the plot idea I wanted, that Mars was secretly already a nest of posthuman intelligences, and is instead going straight with the "Duran Duran" and "Ford Pinto Memo" plots as-is (although one with a huge mid-book bang up as 2400 metric tons of road train plunges into the Lesser Mnemona Chasma at 1/3rd Terra's acceleration... that's like, half the mass of a Los Angeles class submarine!).

Which, I suppose, is fine with me. Technically, it's all downhill from here, I think. The riots are about to begin, the roof is about to come caving in, and our heroes are hot on the trail of The Pimp and the Programmer. This is essentially a story about how a minor pecadillo, a tiny piece of knowledge, and a desire to keep it all secret lead people to commit greater and greater atrocities to keep themselves "safe" from the attention of the authorities. (A pretty common plot: Raymond Chandler loved it, and one of the two major plots of GitS:SAC handled it brilliantly.) Those people are about to start tossing the political and career-based barriers her way. I'm doing okay. I actually found myself wanting to write more Caprice last night. Once Muse and I had agreed to avoid the Posthuman Mars Plot this go-round, she happied right up.

Well, we'll see in two weeks if I hit 60,000 words.

Meanwhile, my next giggle: Thomas Sullivan's One Night In The Life of an Author. Yah. I know this one.

Thomas Sullivan says...

Theologically speaking, it’s tempting to speculate that the Big Kahuna created us just to keep the demigods and minor spirits in good…uh, spirits.

Wow. That explains my whole life.
