Eclipse!

And it was indeed very cool.

We went down to the park to look out over the valley, and when we got there another couple had already set up a large reflector telescope, which was a thrill for the girls. I took many, many pictures but it was very difficult to keep the camera steady even for the fifteen seconds necessary to get pictures during totality. Still, I did get a few pretty good ones, this being the best.

that is awesome! my dd had the luck of having the eclipse take place within full view of her bedroom window, so all she had to do was watch while laying in bed. lucky girl!

*sighs* I'm envious. I had a tripod, but I still didn't manage to get such a clear shot. I think I need a remote cable ... and to not try to take nighttime pictures from our none-too-steady deck.

You might also check to see if your camera can be set to have a delay after pressing the shutter button. Usually this is used so the photographer can jump into the shot as well, but it also works to eliminate the shaking from your pressing the shutter button.

*nods* It almost certainly does; it's a new camera too me though, and I was having enough trouble trying to change lenses and get it screwed onto the tripod in the dark to try to mess around with the settings more than telling it that it's dark out. (Yeah I know; I should have done all that inside.)

Yah, what Otter said. I programmed it for a ten-second delay and then walked away, hoping it would stabilize. But the GorillaPod is old and not that stable, and the slightest wind would put a lot of jitter into the pic.

Bravo! That's the best picture I've seen of it--and that's counting the pale, shaky editions they showed on the news! It was lovely; I didn't mind the cold, for getting to see this.

Very nice. I didn't get to see it as well, here, between light pollution and intermittent cloud cover, but I did at least go outside my apt. every 10-15 minutes during the eclipse (it was quite cold last night) to check on things.
