I hope you're aware of SoundExchange. SoundExchange is a goverment-licensed monopoly collector of royalties for music performances deployed on the Internet. Every time a song is played by an Internet radio station, SoundExchange collects a fee. Every time, without exception. They enter into their database who played it, when it was played, and to whom they owe the fees. If an Internet radio station doesn't play along, they have the power to shut it down with civil lawsuits and attorneys.

Here's the thing: as long as they have the money, they have the right to invest it and earn interest off of it. And you can't get that money from them until you join the RIAA, which owns SoundExchange.
