Dear Livejournal:

I know who my friends are. Leave my goddamn settings and preferences alone.

I agree wholeheartedly. Gah.

You know what? Someone with a botnet and a bunch of stolen LJ passwords needs to write a bot that goes through and flags _every single post_ it can find as offensive content.

And then turn it loose.

That'd be the end of this stupid little scheme...

Thank you for the notice...I would have missed it. Grrrr. I listed mine as adult concepts.

Last I checked, you can create accounts for free. You only need a mail account. Even a free one.

Ooooh! Bots that create mail accounts then create LJ accounts, then mark them...

And thanks for assuming I don't want to see explicit adult content, LJ. I really appreciate having you act as my parents... oh wait, I'm a fucking adult.

Morons.

oh, man. thanks for the heads-up.

I've been thinking about going friends only and this may push me over the line.

Yet another joyously stupid idea from Six Apart.

Hmm. It didn't change anything on my journal settings...

Thanks for the heads up.

BTW - Why can't I flag something as something I like? Oh, and maybe I should go looking through journals and make sure I flag anything with a pic of a baby in the tub as having "Nude Images of Minors" so I can do my part and help LJ/6A identify these perverted criminals.

Sigh. It's just astounding.

Since I am not a member of livejournal, have no interest in becoming a member of livejournal, really don't want to have to join live journal (and after reading about the way lj treats people here on a regular basis)...

Is there a way to read your journaling with out having to go through all the crap they put up? I like being able to click a button and read one of the most gifted and talented writers of my generation as he unloads about his day and his life. It is a wonderful experience ot be able to read your writing, and I want to continue to do so, but...

Today when I clicked on your site all I got was "adult content", "are you over 14", "does mommy know you are looking at words on the computer?"

Please, can this shit be turned off? Sorry for the language, but I have not been this annoyed by something on line (something a service provider has done that is...) in a very long time.

Hope this can be fixed.

Wow. What fscking retards. And the option to fix it back is disabled.

I tried messing with the page dynamically in FireBug to remove the 'disabled' qualifiers and clicked Submit, but it didn't work. So I guess the code to fix it back isn't in place on the server yet.

Might as well go back to USENET...

I have to agree. This is... pathetic. I really don't want to bother with an openid or anything, either.

Right there with you... been a fan of Elf's writing since 1998... and thoroughly enjoy the insights and vignettes he chooses to share with us through his blog. Now, as a non-LJer (and never intend to be an LJer after this mess), the actual text content of this site is buried through at least three layers of "yes, I really DO want to read this" clicking.

Shades of "1984".

It can be turned off.

(I wandered over here from a friends' post mentioning the new ugly cut-tags.)

The setting, "adult concepts" doesn't mean "adult concepts." It means "Nobody under 14, who is honest about their age, will be able to view this journal. Everyone else who isn't logged in will need to click on a cut-tag, which will hide everything except the title of the post, so they'll have no idea if they want to bother. Friends who have set their entries to collapse, will have the same problem."

I urge everyone to turn the filters *off*, turn the collapsing *off*, and label their journals "no adult content" (by which is meant, "doesn't include a majority of content that couldn't be purchased over-the-counter by minors in US stores"--we have no age restrictions on text).

Use friendslocks and cut-tags to restrict access; that's been working just fine for years.

Thanks for fixing it... now I can tune in regularly again, without the multi-click layers...

Thanks, Elf, for sharing your stories, both real and fictional...

Peace of the season to you and your family,

CthaWorld

You can enable the option by setting an appropriately distant date of birth in your profile. You can hide it from display, and of course you can lie outrageously. The cut-off for permitted year appears to be 1890, judging by what other people have reported trying.
