Friday was pretty crazy without Omaha around. Most of my day was filled with housework and running around: we were out of our favorite brand of shampoo, and I needed a bottle of wine because the recipe I'd chosen for dinner needed one cup of red. Someone mentioned to me recently that Bertrice Small had written a "worldbuilt" fantasy and, mirable dictu, days after hearing about it I stumbled across a copy of it at the bookstore that secretly knows a man who secretly knows his romance. It's pretty bad; the woman is clearly at a loss when everything is her responsibility. At least in historicals you can be reassured that the economy worked and everything had a name, even if you didn't know how or what.

I spent the day in a cleaning frenzy. The downstairs bathroom rarely gets used; because it rarely gets used it always falls down the priority list of rooms needing to be cleaned. Because it rarely gets cleaned, it had fallen into a state in which it, uh, rarely got used. Anyway, it's clean again. It wasn't that bad, but it was embarassing. I also managed to vaccum the upstairs carpeting in the hopes that it would moderate my allergies.

I did relaxing things: I made bread, wrote a little, took a long bath, had a BLT for lunch. Mmmm. With horseradish and everything.

I'd whined to Omaha that I was going to be all alone on Friday and she suggested I invite someone over. Since I hadn't seen her in a while I mention [livejournal.com profile] lisakit and Omaha said that sounded like a great idea.

Dinner was a very thick home-made beef stew. We needed to use up the carrots and potatoes because we just had too many of them. I put it on top of orzo in the hopes that might encourage Kouryou-chan to like them.

Lisa came over and suffered through the hours of ordinary domesticity: trying to get Kouryou-chan to eat (I swear, that kid lives on breakfast cereal and peanut butter & jelly sandwiches), getting the kids showered and ready for bed, watering the cat, playing a couple rounds of Set with the kids. Dinah took to Lisa with aplomb, but I suspect Lisa is one of those people to whom cats naturally gravitate.

After the kids were in bed, we sat downstairs and watched the MST3K of Hamlet and chatted for a while before we both decided it was late and she should head home. Goddess, it was 12:30! I'm so glad I had at least one visitor. I should invite people over more often. Thanks, Lisa, for coming over and keeping company.

This morning, I have cruel children. I'm tempted to take away Kouryou-chan's TV privileges for the day the next time she wakes me up on a weekend begging me to unlock the television. I did convince her to leave me alone until nine, then got up and made French toast with the leftover homemade bread from yesterday.
