Omaha informs me that Riker and Troi got married somewhere along the way in movie ten, Nemesis which breaks the rule that even-numbered Star Trek movies don't suck. I haven't seen Nemesis so I was unaware of this.

I'm kind-of disappointed by this. I wanted them to be awkward fuckbuddies for the rest of their lives. That was what the chemistry between Jonathan Frakes and Mirina Sirtis gave off, and writing to that vibe would have been perfect for them.

It takes a bad writer in a poorly-thought-out universe to decide to marry two people who get together once in a while, fuck like mad, and then have trouble looking at each other in the morning... and then do it again three weeks later. Repeatedly.

Especially since Troi and Worf had a pretty serious thing going for a while.

And then Worf and Jadzia Dax actually went ahead and got married.

Frankly, I always found the JE to be much more believable representations of adult romantic and sexual relationships in the future.

Didn't Worf and Troi get married, on Deep Space Nine? When did they break up?

Of course, I've long since given up on any of the Star Trek series really having continuity with any other.

I think it was more like "This is the last episode of 'Friends' where (whoever the heck they were) HAVE to get together or the fans will lynch us!"

But honestly, they'd been awkward fuckbuddies for DECADES. At some point, characters have to grow up and evolve.

I've not seen Nemesis because I was really disappointed with Insurrection and heard nothing about Nemesis to convince me that the writers weren't playing fast and loose with continuity and cannon just to make some crappy space opera about clones.

Two words...

Yeah, they got married, and I agree the whole awkward thing was far better than wedded bliss, but two words: "Data singing".

It was painful. Not necessarily in a good kind of way either, but it still made the movie worth wincing through. Really. You should see it. Or at least the first 10 minutes of it.
