Three days ago, Necco (shown here enjoying her pot), disappeared into the evening without any hint at all of where she had gone. She does go outside regularly and wanders around the neighborhood, but there are definite limits to how far she'll wander.
She had been showing signs of an injury to her rear right leg, favoring it as she walked. Omaha thought that if it didn't seem to be getting better we should take her to the vet. She disappeared later that day.
Poor Kouryou-chan didn't take it well. She had a three-day field trip with her school starting the next day, and she left thinking that her cat was gone. There have been raccoons and coyotes in the woods behind the house at different times, and Omaha thinks the coyotes have moved back in.
Omaha and I walked the neighborhood on two separate evenings, calling to her and trying to find her. No luck.
Last night, about four AM, I awoke for the usual reason 47 year old men wake up at 4am. While I was still on the loo, I thought I heard a meow. I heard Omaha get up, so when I was done I quickly walked out and found her in the kitchen, standing by the back door. "Necco?"
Necco meowed at me, came in as if nothing was wrong, and went straight for her water first, then her food. She didn't look hungry or dehydrated. Omaha thinks someone else fed her; I think she as just stealing some neighborhood cat's food.
I'm glad she's home, but I'm worried about what she'll do the next time this happens. Still, she's home; I'll take it as a good omen.
