News outlet CNN had a "round table" with three talking heads, two Christians and Muslim. Behind them on the big display was the topic under conversation: Why are Jews So Hated? Their conclusion was that Jews should just shut the fuck up and stop discussing their point of view in public, it bothers people.
Only the names have been changed. Damn, who knew CNN would prostitute itself like that?

Joel. WHo envies you your optimism, but only trusts the Washington information he gets from friends who are there.

Date: 2007-02-06 08:28 pm (UTC)CNN has a record of slanting its news to make itself more popular abroad. In 2003, it was revealed that CNN had been deliberately squelching reports of Saddam's atrocities in Iraq because that was the quid pro quo for having exclusive reporting opportunities within Iraq.
Fanatical Islam is on the rise: it is anti-American and even more so anti-Semitic. The Europeans are sucking up to the Muslim immigrants in their own country, prosecuting those who complain about this for "hate speech." Anti-Semitism is coming back, under the excuse of being merely "anti-Zionist."
CNN is simply going along with the flow. Even if it's a flow through a sewer.

Date: 2007-02-06 08:53 pm (UTC)(he's pretty well-known among Philly sports fans for being a loudmouth who'll say anything he needs to in order to stay in the limelight. I guess since his ESPN gig tanked, he's going into political/culture commentary now.)
Grr...
Date: 2007-02-07 12:22 am (UTC)I was raised and even confirmed United Methodist, but now consider myself more of an agnostic when I turn my eye towards that area of thought at all. However, with all of this, I am strongly against the mingling of church and state in any form.
I don't think I can sort out right now what part of the roundtable ticked me off the most, though I think Stephen was the one with the most balanced (not necessarily that it was balanced) viewpoint of the three.

Date: 2007-02-07 03:35 am (UTC)All the organized religions seem to be bent on 'power' of some kind. Whatever the particular religions message is seems to get lost. Whatever positive aspects exist, seem to vanish.
I have no problem with people being religious but going around trying to convert people, influence governments etc makes them just another group trying to mold everyone to their will. On that score, I think they ALL suck :P

One of the many things that was so wrong about this was that they didn't have an atheist commentator. The clear assumption was that we have nothing useful to learn by listening to atheists.
