Friday: [livejournal.com profile] fallenpegasus wandered over in the eveningtime. I made a dinner of salmon poached in white wine, bouquet garni and bay leaves, mashed potatoes with mint and sugar, and sliced cucumbers. For the salmon and cucumbers I made a sauce of dijon mustard, sour cream, dill, basil, and oregano. It was all very yummy. FP supplied the wine, Covey Run Lemberger, which was better than the usual fare. Yamaraashi-chan was at a friend's house for the evening, so it was just the three adults and Kouryou-chan and we played several furious rounds of Uno! Omaha and I went to bed early, desperate for some adult time together. Life has been too busy.

Saturday: We had to wake up early to deliver Omaha to some Democratic maneuvering at a place down in Kent, after which I took the girls to a nearby ex-Dunkin' Donuts that was still trying lamely to provide fatty, sugary pastry goodness to the citizens of Puget Sound: not only was it once a Dunkin' Donuts but it's still a Baskin Robbins, with two counter sets, one on each side of the store. Donuts and ice cream. I felt bloated just breathing in the air. Kouryou-chan complained that the chocolate cream they used was awful, and when that kid turns down a donut you know it's a bad donut.

I did a lot of laundry and cleaned the kitchen and all the usual Saturday choreness.

I had a date in the evening with Desirae. That was a quiet, low-key affair. We dated a long time ago and are trying to figure out if we still fit. The date itself was nice: we didn't go to a movie or watch TV (she tried to addict me to 24 the last time we went out and damn near succeeded), but sat and talk and snuggled. It was good.

Sunday: Somehow, I managed to fritter the whole day away doing very little. Well, okay, that's not entirely true: I spent far too much time trying to figure out how to convert video to the iPod format. I got it working, mostly, but I want to use transcode's hqdn3d filter on my anime, because it understands animated material and can isolate moving frames much, much more efficiently. You get better video and smaller files. Right now I'm using ffmpeg because transcode doesn't do AAC. Suck.

Yamaraashi-chan apparently liked the book for her book report because she ripped through it, finishing it today. The book is a weird science fantasy sort of thing about a living scapegoat whose responsibility it is to remember things like "pain" and "pleasure," apparently because the community might need those things some day. It was called The Giver.

Omaha and I went to Costco while everyone else was watching the superbowl, and that was the most laid-back Costco run ever. Nobody in the store at all.

I learned that if you get double the King's request in Katamari Damacy, he squees and gives you permission to run around as long as you like, without pause. Now that's fun.

All right, time to get the little monsters into bed.
