Problems in Translation
Dec. 3rd, 2006 05:12 pmYesterday, Omaha and I did our monthly grocery run at Costco, with all that that entails, and after making out way through the checkout line we decided to feed the girls with the hotdogs at their food stand, which are cheap and still delicious. Kouryou-chan managed to spill her drink and damn near spill it twice again. On the way out we passed a fellow working in the back of the store, I saw his nametag and immediately felt sorry for him. I don't know if it's a translation problem or something else; this Costco seems to have quite a few Vietnamese and Cambodian workers there. I just can't imagine what it's like to live in the U.S. when your first name is Porn.
Other than that, it's been a quiet weekend entirely.
fallenpegasus was over Friday. Omaha cooked a shrimp pilaf, only to realize that she lacked the critical spice Old Bay Seasoning, but she mananged to fake it an dinner was quite excellent.
On the other hand, Trader Joe's usual ability to sell excellent wines at derelict prices failed me this Friday. I haven't been wine blogging for a while, mostly because I haven't been drinking as much wine recently. I tried the 2003 Cypress Shiraz and I have to tell you to avoid this wine completely. It smelled okay, an ordinary wine, but the taste started out complicated, but most of those complications went downhill fast: it's oily, and bitter, and not a very drinkable product. (Note that the link goes to the 2005 pressing. I have no opinion on it.)
