Well, I disabled the on-board ethernet and put in an IBM E-100 card I happened to have lying around (doesn't everyone have miscellaneous parts lying in a big box somewhere?) and Omaha and I managed to get some quality time in killing each other-- in Quake 4 Deathmatch.

I seem to do better in small-box zones. We played in a big open field, and Omaha's love of the missle launcher outshone my one-shot-one-kill sniping with the rail gun. She actually beat me, 10-to-4.

I think I'd better practice some more. Or just not wander out into the open too often.

Oh, come on. Doesn't every good geek have at least one of his spice that is a bigger geek than he is, at least in some way? :) :) :)

Yeah, me too. For some definition of "useable." It's not as fast as the old machine, but it cost less than half and I was able to leverage a lot of the existing hardware (audio, ethernet, case, hard drives, externals) to get at least the file server line up and running.

Haven't booted into windows yet. I wonder what it'll do?

Oh, Omaha's got her geek on in a lot of ways. But I'm the FPS player in the house, so it was kind of embarassing to have her beat me so handily.

Load up a map with four bots. Use nothing but the rail. Repeat until perfected.

In Q3A, I usually play on "The Longest Yard" to 20 frags, and the first thing I grab that isn't armor is the railgun. I try to optimize my accuracy. If I haven't obtained at least a 70% hit ratio, I regard myself as doing poorly.
