George Deutsch, a White-House appointed watchdog to NASA's press office, ordered NASA's web designer to put the word "theory" after every instance of the phrase "Big Bang."
The Big Bang is not proven fact; it is opinion. It is not NASA's place, nor should it be to make a declaration such as this about the existence of the universe that discounts intelligent design by a creator. This is more than a science issue, it is a religious issue. And I would hate to think that young people would only be getting one-half of this debate from NASA. That would mean we had failed to properly educate the very people who rely on us for factual information the most.

I'm ok with prefacing all scientific theories with "theory" so long as we also preface all religiously initiated belief with "religious belief."

Oh wait...that would get unweildy. Of course, if we didn't try to mix science and religion to intentionally confuse the issue, context would resolve this nicely, wouldn't it? Since science classes teach what 'theory' means in the context of science.

Think this guy is really unaware of information categories other than "proven fact" and "opinion"? Or is he a disingenuous non-idiot?

I think I would vote for the wording, "it is less than a science issue, it is a religious issue."

I also think it unlikely to be coincidence that Intelligent Design shortens to "Id". I suspect Freud would agree that this is what happens when the Id attempts to run everything.

That's incredible!
Actually, the Big Bang is a creationist theory and was authored by a Belgian Priest. In fact the church was elated to have some "proof" of creation instead of the static view envisioned by Einstein and others.
How backward can your american churchs be... Do they still believe the world to be flat?
