Well, I didn't sleep well through most of the weekend. Not sure why. Might be the stress. Only a few feedbacks on the new story; that's okay with me, I'll wait until the series is done before I start begging for kudos.

It was mostly a weekend of gardening. I trimmed the poor apple tree; it desperately needs attention, and I must have trimmed off over a hundred pounds of apples. It was very meditative, sitting under this sad tree bent over so far the dirt on one side has been pushed up and hollowed in in the back. I cut all the branches that touched the ground and trimmed off many, many apples that had spots or collapse.

Kouryou-chan helped me by picking up the apples that had fallen and putting them into a bucket so I could later haul them over to the composting bin. She also practiced a lot with the weed hound, a funny looking tool that's designed to impale a dandelion core and pull it out with the roots intact. We moved a couple of eight-gallon buckets of those, too. Weeding is simply War Against Nature, and it's non-stop.

Omaha and I did this most of the afternoon, and then headed over to a nice get-together with friends at Vivace's. I like that place; the coffee is amazing and it's kid-friendly in not obvious ways; they have a nook with an ancient computer and a raft full of kid's "learning" games on it, which Kouryou-chan loves. We met up with FallenPegasus, who came over and enjoyed a po-folk dinner of hot dogs, baked beans, and biscuits, followed by putting Kouryou-chan to bed and a movie.

Sunday, more of the same. Well, sort-of. Nobody had an energy, but we did do some more weeding, and housecleaning of the usual sort. The best part of the day was lunchtime, when Omaha, Kouryou-chan and I all rode our bicycles to the nearby park. This was the first time Kouryou-chan had ridden so far; only five blocks, but all uphill. Silly girl did it in a long-sleeve shirt and slacks, too, but she did manage it. We made it all the way to the park, she did laps around the little track that surrounds the park, played on the monkey bars and showed off how she can hang upside-down. Going home was all downhill, and she got a little too much speed, had a little spill, and got some gravel embedded under the skin of one hand, but she picked herself right up and rode the rest of the way. Later, Omaha and I picked out the gravel with a pair of tweezers and and flushing syringe.

Kouryou-chan beat me at three games of Sequence in a row (luck, mostly; she was always just one card ahead of me in the endgame, but she does have the strategy to set up runs and blocks properly now), and we ate leftovers.

This is just too freaking strange. Strange beyond words. It's a video game. It helps you release stress. It does this by allowing you to pick from a collection of characters, including your ex-girlfriend, ex-boyfriend, mother-in-law or con artist, whose face appears before you on the screen. Below the screen are a molded pair of buttocks and a finger-shaped object on a cable, which you then shove up the buttocks so that you can watch the face on the screen writhe in discomfort. The more cruel you are, the more points you get.
