Ugh. Another Kouryou-chan night.

elfsWe humans know too much about human flesh. For example, I can take a shower in 41C water and it's pleasant. But if I touch a human being who's running a fever of, say, 39C, the skin feels so hot that it's almost painful. This must be an instinctual discomfort, a deep and primitive awareness that such a fever means someone is very sick and should probably not be touched.
That was Kouryou-chan at 5:00 this morning. This followed a night where she did everything, including lie, to avoid going to bed at 9:30, continued her antics until well into 10:30, then crawled into our bed at 1:00 complaining of a tummy ache, at 3:30 with a bad dream, at 4:00 again just plain sleepwalking, and at 5:00 with a freak-out because she had to pee and in her exhaustion couldn't find the bathroom. After calming her down and dealing with her immediate needs, we realized she was too hot and took her temperature.
So, she's staying home, which means that Omaha's not likely to get much done today in work terms. It was alarming just how cheerful and joking she was at five, with her fever burning in her like that. She crashed rather quickly after that.
Man, I am so tired right now. I forgot to recharge the laptop last night, so I started at 62% power and am down to 47% already. It's taken all of my concentration to write 300 words in the space where a thousand usually flow without fail.
I fell asleep on the bus, only to jerk awake when the laptop threatened to fall out of my lap. Row upon repeating row of the letter "e" filled this entry until I deleted them. Guess that's the last button I pressed. The battery reads 28%. It's so hot in here.
I suspect I'll be spending the day as a caffiene-based life form.
