It seems to me that there's a lot of writing about meditation, but what it really comes down to is: just sit and do it. Meditation is like writing. You sit and you bring your focus to a singular subject, and you practice the fine art of ignoring distraction. For writing, it's the art of getting the idea out onto paper. For meditation, it's the art of slowly convincing the excessively chattering mind that you're not going to pay attention to it. You're just going to focus on something simple, something miraculous: breathing.

That's it. Everything else is pretty much bullshit. But if you meditate for 15 minutes a day, every day, for three weeks. you'll see some pretty fundamental changes to the way your mind works. Whether they're the changes you want is up to you.

I'm up to 15 minutes this week, and starting to make those breakthroughs. So far, I think I like the effect.
