I took everyone's advice and went to the clinic this morning. The clinic seemed to be terribly backed up; most of the problem was a woman at the head of the line who spoke no English. She claimed to have a referral from DSHS, but the clinic couldn't find it and there was a lot of hemming and hawing and finally the line began moving again after she agreed to get out of the way.

My doctor was only a half hour late getting to me. A nice enough woman I'd never met before, she took a look at my thumb and ordered X-rays.

The X-ray technician's nook was crowded. There were four people ahead of me, and the woman seated next to me reeked of nicotine. While I waited, a serviceman came in to change the developing fluids on the X-ray developer, so another half hour passed before I finally got the hand done.

Nothing interesting showed up on the X-rays, I'm afraid. The bones are in fine shape. It's just badly sprained. I'm to take a lot of ibuprofen, rest it a lot, and generally don't do anything with it that hurts.
