Did you know I have "a strong religious faith?" I mean, it has to be true. Pat Robertson said so last night on the 700 Club. And Pat talks to God, right, so...
In order to have babies, you've got to have a hope in the future ? If you don't believe in God, if you have an existential view of life, if this life is all there is, then, as Peggy Lee sang "why don't we break out the booze and have a ball?" Why do we go to all that trouble? It's only those with strong religious faith who have children. That's the truth.
Man, that's wacky.

One of my guilty pleasures is The Digested Read, by John Crace. It's basically the nastiest book review on the planet, done as a summarization. This week's victim is The Mephisto Club by Tess Gerritsen and, dude, Crace is not entertained by anything more than his nastiness:
"Maybe falling in love with Father Daniel the unavailable Catholic priest will give me some emotional depth," she thought. Just then her phone rang.

"I've got another hideous murder scene for you," said Detective Jane Rizzoli. "By the way, my parents have just decided to get separated and I'm still tormented by the killer we caught in the last book. Does this make me any more interesting or sympathetic?"

"Not really."
Ouch! Read the rest.
