True Words about NaNoWriMo
Nov. 13th, 2006 09:58 pmWell, I managed to trudge through a 5,000 word fishhead that I get to keep for the purposes of NaNoWriMo, and have gotten back to the orgy. At first, I was stymied by how, exactly, I was going to get Khrystyne into the orgy, but I think I have it figured out.
There's an article in the Washington Post about this little bit of annual insanity, and the one true quote I pulled out of it is this: "Get out of the 20,000s as fast as you can. If you can do it in three days, great. The 20s are like a swamp of the soul. Charge through them. The 30s start to feel wonderful." I'm at 28,756 and I know exactly what he means. Goddess, it will be so good to get out of there. If I hit my mark the way I intend, Ash & Arwen will be making an appearance at around 32,000 words and it the timeline the day before planetfall, which is excellent because it means they'll be able to grab Dove and screw her brains out while the rest of the team is distracted with preparations for landing.
This morning I heard an NPR article discussing the Rock Paper Scissors World Championships. I mentioned this article to an acquaintance of mine who used to be a rock paper scissors national-class competitor. "Ah, they changed the rules a few years ago," he said. "Now it's best out of three, which doesn't give you enough time to get into the other guy's head. It's no better than chance. When I did it, it was best out of ten, with sudden death in the case of ties. When I did it, it was a sport!"
Now that's the American attitude!
