My screen has been stable for the past twelve hours. I've made the White Screen of Death go away. And here's a secret. On the T23 (at least, and probably other T?? models) the connector between the video cable and the motherboard is right under a bank of green LEDs above the keyboard. You can see the rubberized portion of the cable leading from the monitor to the keyboard body under the hinge right above those LEDs. Another connector exists right under the "H" key, to connect the mouse to the motherboard. The hardware maintenance manual says that after installing the keyboard, to make sure the connector for the mouse is seated properly, "press down hard on the H key."

It seems that in my case, at any rate, the video cable to the screen sometimes comes loose and gets flaky. This is probably because my laptop spends a lot of time being mobile: in my bookbag, on the bus, in the car, over my shoulder, etc. The solution therefore is simple: press down hard on the LEDs. It seems to have made the problem go away. I'll know for sure in a day or two.

Okay, strange question: What are the typical applications of a 3/4 beat?
