As it now turn out, if you're running a late model Linux kernel (I'm running 2.6.15), running 3D Video is easy on a T23. Go to the Direct Rendering Infrastructure snapshots directory and download the latest snapshot, unpack, and run install.sh. In the Module section of xorg.conf, add Load "dri". You'll also probably have to add this to the bottom of the xorg.conf file:
Section "DRI" Mode 0666 EndSection


That should be it. You can automate the loading of the drm and savage kernel modules, but once you've run modprobe against them, just restart X and hey, full-speed 3D. Excellent.

Oh! X11/Xorg version 7 server version 1.0.2 fixes a nasty startup bug that prevented users from activating X with different configuration files. That works now, so I can now put X into TvMode and use my S-Video out. I think. The resolution goes right, but I haven't tested it yet. I'll let you know.

But yay! I can play Quake!
