I spent most of Saturday in something of an antihistamine-induced haze, and even took a three-hour nap sometime in the afternoon. When I awoke, Omaha and Kouryou-chan were reaching the last half-hour of The Sound of Music. I had forgotten how long it was: three hours. Wowsers. All of Sunday, Kouryou-chan was singing "Do Re Mi" and "My Favorite Things," with little snippets of "Maria" here and there.

Sunday was better. I awoke still stuffed and with a sore throat, but shortly after lunchtime the fog seemed to lift and I could function once more. I cleaned the kitchen and puttered about, trying to recover my energy, while Omaha prepared herself for her debut as a radio host. I started up the DVD manufacturing chain and churned out five MST3K episodes for us to watch in the future, including Zombie Nightmare and Attack Of The The Eye Creatures[sic], and I transferred my VHS copy of New Dominion Tank Police to DVD.

Kouryou-chan and I played a few rounds of War and Go, Fish. We should play more; she's lost a bit of her original killer instinct. Her reading is still solid, and she's learning to use the dictionary. She's also proudly showing off her multiplication skills.

I also played a few rounds of Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil. The new Doom3 build from ID works fabulously under Linux, and the new game is quite good. I heard people complaining that it wasn't as good as Half Life 2, but it was more gameplay for the cash and, really, they're different games in different genres. You can't just say they're "First Person Shooters." HL2 is science-fiction; Doom3 is horror, and Quake 4 is going to be pure action-adventure.

Have I mentioned recently how much I like Gentoo as my Linux distribution? Expected: Doom 3 runs. Cool: Quake 2 runs in OpenGL full screen mode with surround-sound. Wicked cool: Descent 3 in full-screen with the movies. Totally radical: Freespace 2 in full-screen mode with joystick control. Just plain weird: Warcraft II in full-screen mode. Also, there's something to be said for having every Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, and most every arcade game ever written, all on a DVD.

This morning, I'm dragging. I awoke incredibly dehydrated and not really up to exercise. I still did the abs routine, but that was about it. Couldn't do the cardio. I had trouble falling asleep last night and awoke early this morning, and I feel like I've been run over by a Komatsu 930E. Still, it's better than being unable to breathe, which is how I spent most of the weekend.
