By now, we all know that Christopher Reeve died yesterday morning. Sad. I think this cartoon from Player Vs. Player says it all:

Angel #1: "The new guy doesn't want to fly?"

Angel #2: "Mr. Reeve said he'd done that. He just wanted to walk around a bit instead."

Friday afternoon I had a date with the lovely and talented [livejournal.com profile] shemayazi, but she was feeling quite under the weather so we had a quiet evening at home, chatting about this and that, until about the pumpkin hour. I was feeling pretty low-energy myself, so I'm wondering if maybe it's the weather. Dunno.

Anyway, Saturday, Omaha and I spent most of the day running around, getting haircuts and visiting the fabric store for stuff for Kouryou-chan's Halloween costume, then headed home to get ready for dinner with [livejournal.com profile] j5nn5r and friends, since it was his birthday. Omaha and I met the rest of the party at the Ha Na Sushi joint. Dinner was wonderful, as was dessert at Dilettantes, which has the world's crappiest service but by goddess some of the most sinful desserts the world has to offer. I had a drink that hot chocolate and espresso with a shot of schnapps. Omaha joined the party heading for the hot tub; I went home, exhausted, and went to bed.

Pictures! )Sunday, Kouryou-chan and I rose and dressed and headed out to the donut shop, then over to Jenner's and company for a day of Paintball.

That was a lot of fun. We ran around in the woods; I got to shoot people, and got shot back. We hated "the village"; I even got shot by one of my own people. The open woods ones, where stealth, patience, and lots of moving about were more important, were also more fun. I ended up shooting both Omaha and Desirae from a good distance mostly by creeping up on them. At one point I even dropped my ammo pouch to keep it from making too much noise.

Afterwards, we went home. I was just too tired to do anything else. Omaha and I just collapsed into bed.

Bae Yong-joon
Okay, so yesterday was National Coming Out Day, and I was, as usual, clueless to the whole thing until much too late. But that's life. If anyone has doubts about my sexuality, well, they should. In any event, as a nod towards NCOD, I've decided to out myself as a Bae Yong-joon fan. The man is cute beyond words and hot in ways not accessible to mere mortals.

Shemayazi, take note:

"When I grow up I want to be a webdesigner-- a freak!-- use terms nobody understands and convince myself I'm no longer the geek I was in high school."

When I grow up.

If this doesn't scare the begeezus out of you, nothing does:

The United States' Disappeared: The CIA's long-term "Ghost Detainees."

Disappeared? Disappeared?

Okay, yesterday I thought the video "What Barry Says" was a bit over the top. Amazingly pretty and effective bit of graphics. Today, I'm not so sure. Watch: What Barry Says.

I think I listen to this album to much, but I cannot help but smile when I hear it. It's such happy music.

It is said, when you cannot write, you should write anyway. If you're having writer's block, write a letter to your mother. To your wife. To your friends. Write in your journal. As long as you have a pencil and a pad of paper, or in my case a laptop, you should try writing every day. Because to do otherwise is to forget how.

So I'm writing. Because I'm starting to worry that I'm burning out. It's been hard, putting out the last eight stories on a very tight schedule. I wonder what I'm going to do next. NaNoWriMo is only eighteen days away, and maybe I'll participate this year. Kouryou-chan's birthday is on a Friday and it's the only real project for next month, so I'm looking at the months and trying to figure out how I would put it all together.

But my real problem is my fear that I'm writing cliche's. If you don't want to know what's coming up, don't read past the break.

Idea Noodling )

Charlie Stross once said "If you want a career in writing, write three novels, each in a different corner of the genres you love, and try to sell them all, all at once."

He did it. It's time to put his advice into action.
