Well, that's that. I've posted the last of the Dreamteam Calamaties series, Dreamteam Calamaties: Wren, for now. Obviously, these characters will be making future appearances, like many other characters that come and go, and hopefully their adventures will be as interesting as their introduction. I liked writing these as much as I've enjoyed anything, even the first Katrina story, which was torture to finish; it must have gone through four complete re-writes and I was never quite satisfied with it. But it's out and done and I hope it was all worth it.

In other writing news, I've gotten another chapter in the Meigi Dyaus series written, got up to the main conflict in Wish Fullfillment, and pleased myself with the end of The Kemper Assignment. So there's a lot in the "polish" hopper right now. Not too shabby, I think.

Still trying to write around The Lost Crew Of The Palantir, dammit. Why won't that story gel into something useful? Maybe I'm concentrating on the wrong character...

I had one of those "flashes" that immediately becomes a storyline to explore but it's a redundant storyline; I already have three "Lost In Space" series in the works, a fourth would just be... silly. How many "human-ready" inhabitable worlds can there be out there? (Actually, lots, and there's a good reason for it, too.) The idea was to confront something Nozomi says to Linia in the third Misuko & Linia story about the kind of people who ordinarily have a robot companion, and why M&L are different.

It was a quiet Thursday, all things considered. I went to work and squashed about eight bugs, nothing too special. One of the biggest discussions erupted over one of the smallest bugs: whether or not the "field that tells the user what this server is configured to do" should be called a "comment" or a "description". Since one of the missions is to "emulate Microsloth interfaces as much as possible in a distributed fileserving space" we consulted. MS has three different tools for modifying the server configuration-- and two of them use "comment" and one-- the new service wizard-- uses "description." Love that consistency.

We went with "comment" throughout. Silly.

The bus ride home was fine, a little long, apparently some kind of traffic incident on 1st Avenue, but my laptop battery held throughout and I got home without incident, 700 words done. Omaha showed off her nice clean rugs; apparently a door-to-door vacuum salesman had come by, trying to sell Kirby products. The girls were playing with dolls downstairs.

Dinner was baked adult macaroni & cheese, not that Kraft stuff (which the girls know is "Macaroni & Squeeze", because the pastuerized processed cheese food product comes out of a foil squeeze bag-- but they still like it, ick), and then we all went out to Kidopolis. I read a little bit from some paperback I referred to as "Spinach reading" (you know you probably won't enjoy it, but reading it will be good for you) but as it turned out it's a pretty good book. Only one piece of dialogue sounded wrong to me. And the author has done a good job of setting up a mystery; let's hope he doesn't drop it. The girls ran around for an hour without incident; it's so wonderful to see them being so physical, up and down the padded three-story jungle gym.

We got home, had dessert, read books and sent the kids to bed. Completely ordinary. To Omaha's dismay, I played Grand Theft Auto for an hour before we went to bed ourselves. It was chilly last night in contrast to the day's heat; I snuggled up with Omaha good.
