After writing a bit more on the bus on the way home, I reached my home to discover that I had been locked out and FallenPegasus's car in the driveway. I called Omaha to discover that she was three blocks away, at the city park, with the girls. I had forgotten my housekeys and so couldn't get in.

They showed up shortly thereafter, and I set about to making dinner. Dinner tonight was corndogs, but without all the grease, by making cornbread muffins and dropping cubed hot dogs into them. A little mustard was a big help to the savory flavor, but I think they would benefit greatly from chopped and sauteed onions.

FallenPegasus and Omaha went out to give Omaha a night without children. I offered the girls a board game, since we now have a couple which both can play with Sequence and Sorry! at the top of their lists. But they surprised me. They wanted to go out and ride bicycles. We took our corndog muffins and a bowl of ketchup outside and ate and then went riding. Gads, it's summer!

Lots of sun, lots of riding. Little Kouryou-chan started to complain that her legs hurt because she was riding so much. But the big surprise was Yamaarashi-chan. She has figured out why people ride bicycles; she could get to the park and back in half the time it takes to walk, and it's a lot more fun to go fast. She needs to learn balance. She's rapidly getting to the point where it'll be time to take off the training wheels. We rode until well past 8:30. The neighborhood kids came out to play and there was a brief swarm of bicycles about.

We went inside, played a game of Sequence, which was very disappointing as Kouryou-chan had a winning card in her hand for three rounds (she's terrible at keeping them hidden from the person to her left) and failed to realize it. She's usually a butt-kicker at board games in her age range.

I dunked the girls into the bathtub, got their teeth brushed and bodies washed, and gave them fifteen minutes with their tubtoys while I sat in the hallway and finished my daily hacks. I installed Warcraft II and Quicken, which worked, and Rosetta Stone, which didn't. Oh, well. I'm going to upgrade to a version of Wine that's marked as unstable in the build tree, and see what happens. I can always go back. Also, I can't get the Gauntlet ROMs working with the latest version of Mame.

I got them out of the tub and into pyjamas, then read to them. They wanted the Hamtaro books, which are absolutely nothing like the cartoons, but are better looks at the original creator's life and that of her daughter in Japan. The house is small, school is intense, and they celebrate Christmas commercialism. Kouryou-chan helped me feed the cat.

She also had a bit of a tantrum when I wouldn't let her have her vitamins. She'd forgotten them that morning, so she insisted on having them. I talked her out of it; she'd already brushed her teeth, after all, and they're chewables. She finally went to bed, and then so did I.
