So, Sunday I set about to making waffles, and for once I totally nailed it. I fluffed the eggs and remembered the fat, and what came out was perfect: a nanometer-thin layer of perfect crispness surrounding and equally perfect fluffy concoction of waffle goodness. Yummmy!

Anyway, we again shoo'd the girls outside and Omaha and I did the indoor chores, mostly laundry. We washed Yamaarashi-chan's shoes because, well, they were stinkin' up the house. Part of that was because she had come over Friday without socks. She said she couldn't find any at her mother's house. We changed the bedsheets and cleaned up the kitchen, and then I went outside with a bucket of soap and the hose and the girls and I had a great time washing the pink toy house we have in the backyard. Photo: The kids help clean their house. ) We acquired it (have I told this story already? Probably) from a gay male couple who had just bought a home and adopted a boy, and the last thing they needed in their life was a bright, pink girl's dollhouse on their property.

After a lunch of egg-salad sandwiches (again; at least once a weekend they ask for it, and I actually ate one as well) which the girls helped make, we played a few rounds of Sequence and then went grocery shopping. I called Yamaarashi-chan's mother and asked her if she'd prefer that we bring her over a half-hour early, or a half-hour late. She opted for early, so we dropped Yamaarashi-chan off and did the Costco and Safeway thing. While we were at Safeway, Kouryou-chan had a bit of a breakdown. She conspired to go with me since I was going by the bakery, where she had a real tantrum about wanting a cookie from the bakery. Omaha ended up taking her out to the car and calming her down.

There were more games of Sequence and a dinner of delicious salmon and ginger sauce with a green bean and red bell pepper saute'. I made a note on the saute' that the next time I made it, I should use butter rather than olive oil. I cleaned up the kitchen; Omaha finished making the bed and read stories to Kouryou-chan.

I think someone at work is trying to sabotage the Atkins/South-Beach/just generally watching what we eat set. I came in this morning to find a huge pile of Moon Pies on the table in the break room. Successfully making my saving throw against fat and sugar, I dissected my grapefruit and, that and a cup of coffee in hand, returned to my desk to be productive.

So I went in a few hours later to find that not only are half the Moon Pies still there, but someone else has upped the ante with a box of freshly baked donuts. I'm still resisting, but damn they look good.

Damn, lunch can't come fast enough. At least it's filling: some of that leftover adult-oriented (doesn't that make it sound pornographic these days?) pasta and cheese.
