Ze weak.

What a flaming evil week. At least, at the end, I have my laptop back, although the battery will need replacing within the next six months; I get less than an hour out of it under what I consider normal usage (editing a file and listening to MP3s). The same thing is true of my handheld; a battery that used to last a month is now good for a week, and that's only if I don't try to use the e-book reader.

Work was completely grueling, the last five-day slog to the end of a product development cycle. At first, everything was easy, we were getting things done, the last major feature was fixed. And then Friday morning there's an issue at an alpha-release site, someone finds a major bug. Ick. Well, that's why we have testers before customers get their hands on things. But I was at work twelve solid hours today doing nothing but conquering that one bug.

Which means that I didn't get to leave the office until well after the last express had left. Instead of a nice 40 minute ride, I spent 90 minutes with a man in apparent gastrointestinal distress and four examples of the very vally-est of teenage angst while I tried to write (and successfully did write) the opening set-up for a Ken/Aaden story, just because I haven't written very many of those.

Goddess, what a week. It's mostly been work, work, and more work. Not a whole lot of writing, sad to say. Part of that was recovering the laptop. It was an, um, learning experience. I'm pretty happy with the get-up right now: 2.4.23-ck kernel, Ximian desktop, full-screen video playback (that's the biggie for me now), AIM with crypto now (yay!), full office suite w/automated email, industrial-strength photo editor and the paragon of text editors, emacs. And a decent image indexer. I ripped out Nautilus; it's not appropriate for the laptop.

Omaha and I have not had a whole lot of time together this week. Between her working out the details of her little company and my hacking my way through mine, we've barely had the strength to cuddle, much less get really active. I'm "getting things done" using that new planner scheme, but it's really hard to schedule time for Omaha and myself when we're doing The Things Of Life.

I really need a date. Soon.
