Friday I didn't get much writing done, sad to say. Probably no more than five hundred words or so. Lunch was cut short by my need to finish a project before the company monthly meeting where we learned very little. I picked up Yamaarashi-chan from her mother's house but, thanks to the company meeting, we ended up getting home around seven. Omaha and I weren't terribly hungry, still, after the night before, but we got food into the kids. Omaha went to bed early but I stayed up and played a round or two of Castle Wolfenstein.

Saturday, we had breakfast (we all had raisin bran or granola and bit of banana), ran out to get Yamaarashi-chan some new shoes and then headed over to get a steam cleaner. The smell from Kouryou-chan's tummy trouble was still embedded in the carpet. The new carpet cleaners work miracles, though, and we managed to get it out with no problem. I geeked a little-- the ultimate Linux geekery, upgrading the kernel, and the builds take no time at all. I also got the streaming media server up so I can now watch the videos on the fileserver with the laptop.

The girls were great through all of this, playing outside. It's so nice that they're almost the same age and close in intellectual development as well; Kouryou-chan's concreteness allows her to easily keep up with Yamaarashi-chan's flightiness. I made great egg salad sandwiches-- half egg, half celery, a minimum of mayonnaise, a touch of honey mustard. For the girls, I decorated the eggs by slicing an egg and using the slices to make eyeballs-- olives or capers for the iris--, a trim of carrot for a grin, more shredded carrot for whiskers or hair, and slices of celery for eyebrows. The kids thought they were fantastic and ate it all down.

I am so Martha Stewart. Without the federal indictment, of course.

Saturday night we went to [livejournal.com profile] j5nn5r's home to celebrate the graduation of his eldest daughter from high school. Now she's heading into the Marines. I think she'll make it; she's a remarkably tough girl from everything that I've seen. We ate lots of good food and spent a lot of time just chatting. Later, we watched the first episode of season seven of Stargate SG-1. [livejournal.com profile] omahas and I set up a tent outside (with so many family over, the house was packed), and I pt the kids to bed in their sleeping bags and read Green Eggs and Ham and The Runaway Bunny to them. They thought sleeping outside was a blast.

Omaha and I, in contrast, were awakened in the middle of the night by a light drizzle. I'm so glad we bought a decent tent; set-up took six minutes and putting on the rainfly took two. Sigh Didn't sleep well.

On to Sunday.
