A rockin' great day.
Jun. 11th, 2003 08:36 pmI am so having the best revenge.
This morning, I sat down at my desk and started hacking out a forms manager for the graphical user interface I do at work. When it was time to leave I had written 982 lines of code, most of which worked. The validation code, both lexical (written in Javascript) and syntactical (written in Python) is crude and half-formed, but at least the presentation layer is done. Listening to every CD of Nine Inch Nails while doing it helped. Whee! There is so much left to do, but at least I'm finally making progress. Getting management to leave me the frack alone and let me actually design and write helped.
At lunch, I had a leftover chicken sandwich Kouryou-chan had refused to eat Saturday, and sat down outside with my laptop and hammered out three thousand words of smut good enough it turned me on. In one day I completely caught up on not having written at all yesterday thanks to the dentist trip and related wooziness. I've written ten thousand words in the past six days.
I picked up Yamaarashi-chan and helped her load the new computer game we got her for her birthday onto the kids' machine. The two kids played it peacefully until dinner time, which they didn't eat. Omaha made a fabulous breaded chicken (with toasted italian bread and parsley and really good olive oil) for us, and a similar meal (with ground chicken and apple) for the kids. They seem to be a on a protein protest as they didn't eat much. At least Kouryou-chan eats a hearty breakfast a very hearty breakfast and lunch; I often despair hearing Yamaarashi-chan describe what she eats at her mother's house. How Kouryou-chan stays such a string bean given the amount of breakfast she typically eats is beyond me.
Afterwards, I did something I learned from Martha Stewart: picked up four cheap sponges from the 99¢ Store for, predictably, 99¢s, cut them into long two-centimeter thin strips and bundled them with really old hair ties into big, fluffy koosh balls. Then we took them outsides and the two kids and I ran around in the yard for half an hour, dunking them into a bucket and throwing them at each other. Reusable water ballons!
The sun went down and they started to shiver, so I took them inside and got them into dry clothes. It was a surprising lot of fun, and we'll probably do it more when it's hot again. Kouryou-chan is developing a good arm and aim, but she still needs work. Yamaarashi-chan, on the other hand, can put the koosh on-target when she puts her mind to it.
Sigh. But now, it's time to take Yamaarashi-chan back to her mother's house, do the dishes, and go to bed.
