Helpful Children

elfsThis afternoon, the children helped us do gardening in the front lawn. We planted pansies and other lovely flowers in the hopes that someday we will actually have a pretty front and not the scrabble we were left with after buying the house and replacing the water main. Everything was going pretty well. Yamaarashi-chan had helped to plant some cucumbers in little potting plants that I need to remember to bring indoors, and Kouryou-chan was doing her part filling up her little watering can.
A little while later, Omaha and I go inside to tidy up and get ready for some lovely guests later in the evening when Yamaarashi-chan comes in and says, "Kouryou is watering the car!"
I start down the stairs to see what she's doing when I hear Omaha gasp, "Oh, my god!" I get down and look out and Kouryou-chan isn't just getting the car wet: she's taken out the hose and is pointing it right through an open window into the back seat.
Grief.
I shouted, "Kouryou, what are you thinking?" Of course, she wasn't-- she's only three, after all. She dropped the hose and the water shut off, and Omaha and I started in on the task of taking out the kid's car seats, drying out the rugs, mopping up the rear seat cover. Quite the mess. Fortunately, it wasn't too bad and there was enough sunshine left in the day to dry it out adequately. I promised the kids that if it was sunny tomorrow they could help me wash the car correctly. If not, we'll have to go see that silly Piglet movie.
