Words not in the Penguin Hutchinson 1995 CD-ROM Dictionary and Thesaurus.

• Torte.
• Matte.
• Ganache.

Since I prefer to write with the Internet turned off, I keep a copy of this application and library on my laptop for references purposes. Recent writing projects have exposed the epic fail of this plan.

I can understand why the first and last aren't in a dictionary (ganache especially) because they're specialized terms of a sort, but matte? That does seem to be an odd exclusion.

Random House Webster 1999 has the first two, not the third.

It also (blessedly) pronounces words, with the recording of a real human. I still talk funny, just not as funny as I would have without that help.

The OED also doesn't have ganache. The other two both appear in WordNet. I have the dictionary portion of WordNet loaded in my laptop's dictd server, along with a few other useful databases.
