This morning, while driving to work, I tuned around the dial and landed on "The Conservative Alternative," KVI 570. Imagine my surprise and pleasure when, instead of the usual dain bramage coming from local right-wing talk show host Brian Suits, I heard Elton John. Followed by Abba, and then Franki Valli.

At first, I thought it was just a joke, but it's the real thing. After eight years of incessant conservative yammer, the local FOX Radio affiliate had gone down in flames, unable to sustain its crew of talking heads any further on dwindling advertising dollars.

I mourn for the loss of the soulful, angelic voice of Laura Ingrahm, the calm, meditative comments of Mark Levin, the principled commentary of Sean Hannity, the rational, historically accurate musings of Bill Cunningham, and worst of all, that deep and evidence-based science host, Art Bell.

The other conservative channel, 770 KTTH, with the world's ending soon Glenn Beck, destined for a heart attack any day now Rush Limbaugh and Bigfoot hunting, American intellectual tradition trashing Michael Medved, is sadly still going strong.

Oh wow, you didn't know? Yeah, KVI Talk had been being circled by buzzards for months. They're an old-school Full Service Station now, playing oldies on the AM dial. They've pretty much decided to go live in 1979 for a while. XD As a former radio person? I really hope it works and yes that's nostalgia talking.

woot! Medved shocked me, when I first heard what a lunatic he was - I'd really *enjoyed* his Golden Turkey Awards books, etc

I'll point out that Art Bell never claimed his show was anything but entertainment, and said several times on the record that the content of his show reflects what draws an audience, and not his personal belief.

That 'KTruth' nonsense at 770 is the alternative station for my Seattle Mariners when their usual 710 is filled with football or such.

Imagine the ugly taste on my tongue when I got back in the car after listening to the ball game the day before. Ptooie!

So the B-list just went bye-bye, to be replaced by the biggest flamer since Liberace?

1979 wasn't a bad year, all things considered. I was 13 and discovering puberty.
