So, my fan started going all buzzy and noisy and I decided to replace it. I had the spare hanging around, after all. I thought I could take care of it in a half hour or so.

Which I would, if Omaha's new computer decided to let me f#$@ing print. As far as I can tell, everything's good: I have the right address, I'm sending to the right target, I'm sending passthrough postscript, it's actually making it to the print queue at the far end-- and it's crapping out on me. Which totally sucks.

And just as I was getting really frantic and emotional-- the fan went back to being nice and quiet. WTF?

Today was going so nicely, so the universe decided to mess with my head.

Sometimes the universe is a jerk. But I still like the universe anyway, because it holds all my stuff.

You've got a worn spot on one of the ball bearings in the fan; it will rattle and buzz when it gets turned to an alignment that causes the worn spot to hit the bearing race, causing the vibration and noise; when it gets turned so that it doesn't line up right any more, the noise goes away.
