The client I'm working for uses Subversion. I'm so used to working with DVCS's now like Git and Mercurial that I'm frustrated in my desire to "create a stab at a better experience" without conflicting with the rapidly changing needs of the product.

Could you perhaps layer svk on top of it? Haven't used it, but have heard it can be used to emulate a DVCS with svn.

I've been making extensive use of the git svn bridge and that makes svn much more tolerable.

Another +1 for git-svn here -- it's not quite the full-on git experience, but it does give you the ability to go hog-wild with the local branching, and nobody else sees that unless you merge it and push it back up...
