Omaha and I went this evening to the annual performance of Kouryou-chan's dance school's ballet. This year it was Sleeping Beauty, and I must say that year after year Mrs. Moss's stage direction, choreography, and management, especially of the very smallest children, is getting better and better.
Kouryou-chan did a very good job. She's lazy with her arm in rehearsal, so her teacher says, but when on stage she did a pretty good job of raising them and keeping them steady during the flourishes. All in all, a vast improvement over her skillset three years ago.
The dance studio is struggling, of course. The founder and main teacher is moving away, but she's going to keep it open and anticipates moving back in a few years. They have almost no male leads; they're having to hire back an old graduate who went on to college dance schools to play the male role. And their best female lead is leaving after next year. Who knows? This has actually become quite the local municipal spectacle; it would be a shame to lose it.
We got Kouryou-chan flowers afterward. She was very grateful.
