Date: 2009-04-03 07:48 pm (UTC)Can I point out something that might be less-than-obvious right now? While you're busy polishing Linked In profiles, etc., also remember that you've spent the last two decades writing yourself into a situation where a ton of people know who you are. By and large, these people respect you and think that you're cool. A lot of them are geeks.
Geeks are often looking for other talented geeks. If they aren't, they usually know someone who is. You have a far larger network than 95% of people in the industry. You may not know all of them, but they know you. Don't forget that you can use them as a resource, and possibly a very powerful one.

Date: 2009-04-03 09:40 pm (UTC)That said, well, fuck. But there are jobs out there, Anna got a new position in a few weeks after being laid off at the Times back in December, so. I'll keep an eye out, fwiw.

Date: 2009-04-04 02:59 am (UTC)I've just updated my resume, myself. I'm not sure if the place I work for is gonna make it.
Very Uncertain Times!
If I lived in Seattle, I'd definitely be touting you to my LinkedIn list.
recession
Date: 2009-04-06 01:34 am (UTC)John was laid off in January. The company he worked for was a sub-contractor for Home Depo Expo, and when Home Depo closed that business, his company went belly up. As he is a tiler, not a jack of all trades, and he is extremely qualified, no one wants to hire him as they can pay less for less quality. It sucks the big time, and one reason why we are moving back to Scotland. It is why I wasn't able to come out to Seattle for the convention. Big bummer!
