Like other hard-core, productive, industrious members of society utterly enraged by the prospect of an increase in the marginal tax rate, I hereby make this announcement: I'm Going Galt.

When I make $250,000 this year, that's it. No more productivity until next year.

Me three! This will send a powerful message!

(And it certainly does. Previously, I would not have credited that it was possible to hold down a >$250k/yr job and not actually understand how a graduated marginal income tax word: apparently my opinion of American maths education was insufficiently pessimistic.)

The problem is not a abysmal state of math and science education in this country, as the loudest voices on the subject are well versed in financial calculations. It's all about greed and inverse socialism.

I think this is a great counter-meme. I shall have to steal it.

My reply...

"Galt leads a revolutionary movement in which all the top leaders of the banks and corporations forsake their corporate jets and perks to work in diners or as subway repair guys."

I just peed myself laughing.

Let's see if they actually print that.

You have been become tools of the Man! Raise up and throw off your oppressor! Rise and throw off your chains! Stand united brothers! Stand against tyranny and oppression!

Why I Am Not A Capitalist:

I have observed that people who have > $250k/year jobs tend to be people who are related to powerful people and people who are good salesmen (even if the job is not about sales) far more often than they are people who are very good at the nominal subject matter of the job.

Why I Am Not A Communist:

Communism doesn't change that.

Weird, I see no 'edit' link in my original comment. Maybe a glitch in the style I'm using? Anyway, not your fault or problem, obviously.

I've started shaking my head at this straw-man, that the "hard-working man" is paying for the "shiftless" & "lazy" to just sit around.

Funny, but for the 24 years that I've been paying taxes, I've noticed something: Every time D.C. proclaims that they've cut taxes, I find myself paying more the next April 15th. (I've known poor people, and I can tell you, it's not going to them. They're all just as poor and miserable.)

Soooo, the majority in the middle pay more taxes, the folks at the bottom stay poor … <sarcasm>Gee I Wonder Where the Money's Going</sarcasm>.

Frankly, I would rather my increased taxes go to the working poor, unemployed, or poverty-trapped than to the rich, super rich, disgustingly rich, or the multinational corporations.
