Date: 2009-01-18 06:47 pm (UTC)OTOH, Elf, you're on the other coast, so you do not have the benefit of hearing Alan Shartock of Northeast Public Radio (WAMC) spill the dirt about NPR. As Mr. Shartock puts it, "NPR is the tail wagging the dog." The organization, NPR, was formed to serve the public radio stations around the country, to do things at a national and international level that no single station could afford alone by pooling resources. Alan Shartock reminds us of this every fund drive, then goes on to point out how NPR now dictates to the individual public radio stations, to get them to tow the party line. And the party line is, "Don't upset the ones who give us money."
This is why, for the past 8 years, NPR has carefully placated those in power … while Northeast Public Radio has told NPR to go shove it.
So now, there's a changing of the guards in D.C., and NPR, always one to chase after the money, is placating the new people in power.
I'm curious to know what news sources in other countries think of the inauguration, or if this all ceased being news as soon as the election was over…
