- Best Sports Stadium Name Ever?
- Ronald Bailey brings us news that two New York councilmen have proposed that the new stadium for the Mets, originally to be named 'CitiField' after Citigroup, the failing bank that has recently been bailed out to the price of more than its own titled assets, should be renamed 'Citi/Taxpayer Field.'
Screw that. Just name it 'Taxpayer Field.' Bread and circuses for everyone! - Matt Yglesias finds a funny screenshot.
- "Today: Obama will address economic woes. President Bush to pardon turkey."
- Rich cutting back on gifts to mistresses
- 82% of multimillionaires with "on the side" lovers said they planned on cutting back on expensive gifts like resort vacations, compensated air travel, and top restaurants.
- Why CNN Struggles to Cover the Economic Panic
- Dale Dougherty explains why news outlets have trouble explaining the problem to us. It's not the economics, it's the references. We don't know these people. We know more about the Taliban and the Maliki Government and the various Sunni and Shia factions than we do about the boards of Goldman Sachs and General Motors.
Dougherty's suggestion that we start to look in on these people as being as dangerous to our future well-being as the Taliban is a harsh one, and an accurate one.

The garage space pictured in the article, with probably ten times a three-year old's weight in hardened plastic toys and boxes, is so inappropriate as homes are foreclosed in record rates! What sort of a wretch are they trying to raise?

Date: 2008-11-26 06:09 pm (UTC)Y'know, Omaha and I are struggling with giving the kids time these days. We're so scheduled that the well is running dry. But "stuff?" Not so much. Well, books, but that's just Kouryou-chan's voraciousness.

Date: 2008-11-27 04:09 am (UTC)I grew up on Long Island. I went to Mets games with Uncle Joe, my mom's older cousin with a Brooklyn accent so thick, you could stand a spoon up on end in it.
Just like the new
bribestadium given toSteinbrennerthe Yankees, the replacement for Shea Stadium came, of course, mostly out of city coffers. (I've been hearing about it with some regularity, since I live in the exurbs and work in Manhattan.)So, when NPR reported that this morning, as soon as the 'Citi/Taxpayer Field' registered in my brain, I started shouting, "Yes! Yes! YES!" over and over again. Drove almost a mile down the Taconic shouting like that, getting more aggressive with each, "YES!"
I sure hope it goes through.
