I know I shouldn't complain. I have friends who are fighting much, much worse than what I've got. But dammit, this headcold is just the pits. It's logged up in the left side of my head and it won't leave. It's been two damned weeks and I'm really, really tired of it. Nightly doses of Sudafed, Benadryl, and a shot of 50-proof brandy just aren't really closing the gap. I even tried using a Neti-pot this afternoon, and it moisturized my lower sinuses but didn't begin to clear out the uppers.

Bleah.

I told you before... trust me. Honey/pepper. I swear it works to clear out your sinuses. It doesn't taste awful, it won't hurt you, just don't drink anything hot right afterwards.

It sounds a bit icky, but you can flush out the upper sinus by closing off the outlet nostril briefly. It is harmless if you swallow accidently, but you can usually spit it out. I live in area with upper throat sinus issues and it helps.

Also for stubborn blockages, remember to use warm water and to work it slowly clear, it can take a few pots to dissolve stubborn mucus. And once clear, use the pot every few minutes if you can to let that part of your sinus relax and realize it isn't being irritated.

It mostly helps for cases less extreme, but I've found that those BreatheRight strips work fairly well at opening up my sinuses when I have a cold.

I tried that. It didn't seem to help. Another piece of advice substituted garlic for the pepper, and that just made me smell bad. *Sigh*.

Maybe it's time to see the doc. Sometimes you actually do need antibiotics.
